Paul Bettany has been cast in Avengers: Age of Ultron. He is to play the rather cryptically named The Vision, an android created by Ultron (the film’s arch enemy, played by James Spader).
Bettany is no stranger to the Marvel-verse, as he has provided the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S. (Tony Stark’s/Iron Man’s computerised butler) in all three Iron Man films, as well as in the precursor to Age of Ultron, Avengers Assemble. However, the role of The Vision will be his first live action contribution to the series.
Speculation abounds concerning the exact nature of The Vision. The fact that Bettany has been cast in the role seems to suggest that the android may be related in some way to the J.A.R.V.I.S. technology; perhaps some corrupted version of the butler we know and love?
Other familiar faces popping up in Age of Ultron include Scarlett Johanssen as Black Widow, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Chris Evans as Captain America, and of course Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man. Many of this lot will also be rearing their heads in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, another Marvel offering, which will be released in the UK on March 28th.
Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released in the UK on May 1st 2015.
