US Release for Carrie Remake Pushed to October

Initially due out in March 2013, the US release of the remake of 1976 horror classic Carrie has been pushed back to October. This is probably in order to cash in on the lucrative Halloween period, when the scares come thick and fast.  No reason has been given for the delay, but the timing of the release couldn’t be better.

Kick-Ass star Chloe Moretz has taken over the title role of our anti-heroine from Sissy Spacek, but the teaser trailer has shown that she has also taken over Spacek’s blood-soaked dress with eerie ease.  Julianne Moore has stepped in to Piper Laurie’s over-bearing shoes as her religious mother, and it will be interesting to see if she will be as silently terrifying as Laurie was in the role.

We all know the story, shy bullied girl realises her telekinetic powers and unleashes her fury with terrifying consequences.  The Stephen King novel was originally brought to the big screen by Brian De Palma and it will be Boys Don’t Cry director Kimberley Peirce who holds the bucket of blood for this outing.  So next time you’re about to play a prank on someone, spare a thought for Carrie.  You just don’t know what their reaction will be.

As yet there appear to be no plans to change the film’s UK release date, which is still set for April 5^th (but we’ll be keeping a close eye on it!). Carrie will hit US screens on October 18^th.
