May the 4th be with you, as earlier today, EA Studios announced that Respawn Studio is working with them to create a “third-person action adventure game set in the Star Wars universe”.
The project is being headed up by Stig Asmussen, best known as the Creative Director on God of War 3 (2010). Asmussen left Sony’s Santa Monica Studio to work for Respawn in 2014.
In a statement on Respawn’s official site, Asmussen wrote: “Fans should expect the exemplary level of quality first established at Respawn with Titanfall, a game that epitomizes our studio’s dedication to slick, larger-than-life action and fun, groundbreaking mechanics.”
This will be EA Studio’s second use of the Star Wars license with Star Wars Battlefront (2015) released last year. It is also a busy time for Respawn who are currently working on Titanfall 2, which will be released on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
It is currently unknown which platforms the upcoming untitled Star Wars game will be released on, whether it will be an exclusive for either Xbox One, PS4 or PC, although more than likely, it will be released across all three platforms with the potential for release on Nintendo’s upcoming NX.
Whilst no clues were given for a potential release date, Asmussen wrote: “We have already planted the seeds by assembling a small, but incredibly talented team, ready for the amazing journey that lies ahead.”
