Awards season is getting into full swing as the BAFTA awards nominations have been announced! With just a couple of weeks to go before the ceremony, we thought it would be an opportune time to look at the nominations and list our predictions.
Even with Gravity leading the pack with 11 nominations, with 8 of our predictions, we believe Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave will be the big winner on the night, followed by Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity with 4 predicted wins. The technical awards (sounds, special effects) are sure to be won by Gravity but 12 Years a Slave has the advantage of a number of nominated acting performances and an award typical narrative. Yet, individual predictions have proven difficult this year; it is a fantastic selection of films, even if there are some questionable emissions. Spike Jonze not getting a best original screenplay nomination for the fabulous Her stands out and the lack of love for the Coen Brothers Inside Llewyn Davis is very surprising. But of what has been nominated, nothing too surprising, or unwelcoming, has turned up in any of the categories. The most glaring element in the nominations has been the lacking quality and quantity in the animation department this year.
The BAFTA award ceremony is set to take place on Sunday, 16 February. Scroll down for the full list of nominations and our predicted winners.
