Wonder Woman Will Appear in Batman Vs. Superman

Rumors be true. Wonder Woman will in fact appear in the Man of Steel sequel! She will be played by Gal Gadot.

What is for the moment titled Batman vs. Superman will now have to change its name to Batman vs. Superman, Featuring Wonder Woman, as Israeli actress and former model Gal Gadot, who is most known for her appearances in the Fast and Furious franchise, has been confirmed as part of a cast which now includes Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Amy Adams.

This news seems to confirm speculation that DC are in fact attempting to match Marvel’s Universe building skills and construct their own cinematic superhero group to match – the Justice League. Whether we are soon to get news of Green Lantern and Flash casting, or if they are being prepared for another movie, remains to be seen.

On this casting, news director Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300, Man of Steel) said “Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favourite in the DC Universe…. not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.” What type of role she will play in the story and how substantial it will be is a mystery at this point.

It is unlikely that this casting news will provoke as strong a reaction as Affleck’s, who is set to play an “older” and “wiser” Bruce Wayne/Batman. Gadot seems like the ideal Wonder Woman; attractive, strong and charismatic. However, concerns regarding the amount of characters, in what was initially believed to just be a Superman sequel, may worry some. Are DC approaching the Justice League too fast?
