[dropcap]L[/dropcap]egendary comedy group Monty Python are set to re-unite in a live one off stage show next July.
This one-off event, described as a “final reunion. Sort of”, will mark the group’s first work together in 30 years. Python’s John Cleese, Michael Palin, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam announced this news at a recent press conference in London, promising the show would contain “some of Monty Python’s greatest hits, with modern, topical, Pythonesque twists”.
Of the entire original group, only Graham Chapman will not be physically present. Chapman tragically died in 1989, but he left an indelible mark through his performances, not just in the Python sketches, but two films that are often considered the greatest comedies of all time: The Holy Grail and Life of Brian. At the humorous conference, Idle remarked “we will be incorporating him…we will even try and perform with him at one point”.
As well as performing classic, much loved sketches, such as The Dead Parrot, Idle also said that there will be material never been performed live. Cleese remarked “People really want to see the old hits, but we don’t want to do them in a predictable way”. The event will apparently be televised, so everyone will have the opportunity to witness the comedy event and judge whether the Python’s comeback was ever necessary.
The Monty Python re-union show, which is sure to be sold out almost immediately after tickets go on sale on November 25th, will occur on 1 July 2014 at the London O2 arena.
