[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he battle of the next generation consoles is quickly heating up and the race to be crowned “the best” continues as Microsoft announces the Xbox One has shipped 1 million units.
Last week Sony announced that the newly launched PlayStation 4 had shipped more than 1 million units in North America after just 24 hours following it’s launch on November 15th. Whilst Sony had the first laugh, they certainly didn’t have the last one.
Over the weekend, Microsoft announced that their launch was just as successful. Releasing on November 22nd, it went on to sell more than 1 million units in 24 hours.
Yusuf Mehdi, Xbox’s Chief Marketing & Strategy Officer, said (via Digital Spy): “We are humbled and grateful for the excitement of Xbox fans around the world. Seeing thousands of excited fans lined up to get their Xbox One and their love for gaming was truly a special moment for everyone on the Xbox team.
“We are working hard to create more Xbox One consoles and look forward to fulfilling holiday gift wishes this season”
According to statistics released by Microsoft, gamers killed over 60 million zombies in Dead Rising 3, drove more than 3.6 million miles in Forza Motorsport 5 and defeated 8.5 million foes in Ryse: Son Of Rome in 24 hours after launch.
Whilst the PS4 is only available in North America, Xbox One is currently available worldwide. The PS4 launches in Europe on November 29th.
