[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise, Tomb Raider, could possibly be coming to next generation consoles.
According to a listing on Amazon’s Italy website, Tomb Raider is heading to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Wii U with a release date for January 24th, 2014. The title for the game was “Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition” and featured an new art book and all the DLC that had since been released following its launch. The webpage has since been deleted.
Square Enix published Crystal Dynamic’s reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise back in March and went on to be critically acclaimed worldwide for its intense gameplay and emotional story of its protagonist Lara Croft, voiced by Camilla Luddington who also received acclaim for her stunning performance.
The game which released on both the Xbox 360 and PS3, was however labeled a financial failure by publishers Square Enix despite selling a reported 4 million copies worldwide. Despite the “financial failure”, a sequel is currently in development for next generation consoles.
Square Enix released a cryptic statement to IGN on Tuesday, saying: “It’s so hard to keep a secret these days! We appreciate all of the enthusiasm, however we don’t have any details to share just yet. That said, we highly recommend you keep an eye on any major gaming events happening in early December.”
The video game convention, VGX, takes place on December 7th which could be what Square Enix are referring to when they say more is coming in early December.
