Hugh Jackman to Return as the Wolverine in James Mangold's Planned Sequel

[dropcap]J[/dropcap]ames Mangold’s big screen production of The Wolverine has announced plans for a sequel, with both Mangold and Hugh Jackman attached.

The 2013 box-office hit earned over $400m worldwide, making it the second highest grossing X-Men film behind X-Men: The Last Stand.With X-Men: Days of Future Past already creating a major buzz around the world, a sequel for the long-running Jackman character seems like the right choice.

Prior to heading up the Wolverine crew, Mangold was best known for directing Angelina Jolie and Winona Ryder in hard-hitting drama Girl Interrupted, and also transforming Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon into the spitting images of Johnny Cash and June Carter in 2005’s Oscar winning Walk the Line.

Lauren Shuler Donner, a long-time producer on the X-Men franchise, has also signed on for the as yet untitled Wolverine sequel, which also does not yet have a script or estimated release date. In fact, there’s very little else to reveal about the film as of yet, as it’s still in the very earliest stages of development, but watch this space to find out what the Wolverine’s next move will be…
