August is a pretty quiet month for blockbuster video game releases, however we do see the release of a highly anticipated action adventure game for the Switch, as well as the first game of many in the Dark Pictures anthology.
Age of Wonders: Planetfall
Release: 6th August
Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC
In Age of Wonders: Planetfall, players will explore the remnants of the Star Union, once a vast empire connecting thousands of worlds. But now, its people have been left isolated and stranded following the Collapse.
Emerge from the dark age of a fallen galactic empire to build a new future. Build an empire with one of six unique factions, ranging from the militant Vanguard to the dinosaur-riding Amazons and the cyborg-zombies of the Assembly. Progress through each faction’s missions and explore planetary ruins while encountering other survivors as the history of a shattered civilization unravels. Fight, build, negotiate, and technologically advance a path to utopia in single player campaigns, on random skirmish maps, and against friends in multiplayer.
Paranoia: Happiness is Mandatory

Lead a team of four Troubleshooters, who (mostly) obey orders from Friend Computer, a paranoid and irrational artificial intelligence. Inspired by the classic games of the CRPG genre, experience the first adaptation of the cult role-playing game!
Paranoia: Happiness is Mandatory takes place in Alpha Complex, humanity’s last idyllic refuge which is controlled by Friend Computer. All citizens enjoy a life of joy, cheerfulness and cleanliness. Questioning the benevolence of Friend Computer is an act of treason. Having access to information beyond your security clearance is an act of treason. Refusing to drink your daily dose of Bouncy Bubble Beverage is an act of treason. Treason is punishable by summary execution.
You lead a team of Troubleshooters with RED security clearance. Your job is to find trouble – and shoot it. Friend Computer monitors your every move, alerting any sign of treason will undoubtedly reward you for prompt and heroic action in defence of Alpha Complex. Commit a treasonous act yourself, and Friend Computer could assign you to be used as reactor shielding.
Control

After a secretive agency in New York is invaded by an otherworldly threat, you become the new Director struggling to regain Control.
From developer Remedy Entertainment, this 3rd person action-adventure will challenge you to master a combination of supernatural abilities, modifiable loadouts, and reactive environments while fighting through a deep and unpredictable world. Control tells the story of Jesse Faden’s personal search for answers as she grows into the role of the Director. The world of Control has its own story, as do the allies Jesse meets along the way. Jesse works with other Bureau agents and discovers strange experiments and secrets.
Astral Chain
Release: 30th August

Astral Chain, a brand-new action adventure from PlatinumGames, is coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch this month.
In the Ark, a multi-cultural city in the near future, disaster strikes when gates to another dimension suddenly appear. Dangerous creatures begin to emerge, attacking the people and polluting the land, and normal police forces are unable to compete with them. To stand up against these threats, a brand new, special police unit known as Neuron is formed.
Choose between two playable characters on your adventure as you become a fellow member of Neuron. A special weapon called the Legion acts as your partner, and helps with your investigation to uncover the secrets of the alternate dimension. However, it’s in battle where the Legion shows its real ability. There are multiple Legions in the game, each with different combat styles and abilities with players being able to strategically change between Legions at will during real-time battles.
The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan

Bandai Namco and Supermassive Games are partnering to deliver a new terrifying series of narrative horror games.
From the developers of Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures is a series of stand-alone, cinematic horror games, designed to present a new, terrifying experience on a regular basis. Each game is unconnected and will feature a brand-new story, setting, and new cast of characters.
Man of Medan is the first game in the anthology, bringing supernatural horror on board a ghost-ship in the South Pacific. Four friends and their captain set sail on a holiday diving trip, with a rumoured WWII wreck to find. As the day unfolds, and a storm rolls in, their trip soon changes into something much more sinister.
