RavPower keeps it coming with the Quick Charge 3.0 30W wall charger (model RP-PC006). This charger pairs well with the RavPower 20100mAH external battery, much like a fine wine and a perfectly aged cheese. You may recall that battery pack from a review I wrote earlier this year, in April of 2016. Oddly enough, the external battery (portable charger) also supported Quick Charge in order to charge devices, as you guessed it, quickly.
So, yes, this is a Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 charger. For those of you that don’t know much about Quick Charge, Quick Charge 3.0 is the latest version released by Qualcomm. And you might be wondering, “How quick is this charger?” Well I can tell you over conventional charging Quick Charge 2.0 could charge 59% of the battery in 27 minutes. Quick Charge 3.0 could charge 66% of the battery in 27 minutes. So the improved charging speed by 7% and also gaining 38% more efficiency over Quick Charge 3.0 has made it a sizable improvement. I would say as always, your mileage may vary. But I typically love using this charger for a quick boost in the afternoon or evening just to get 20% to 30% battery back in my device for an evening of binge-watching YouTube videos.
Not only does this charger support Quick Charge 3.0 but it also supports RavPower’s iSmart module. iSmart automatically communicates with the connected device and determines the optimal charge level and currents. iSmart works well along side the Quick Charge device identification integrated chip to detect compatible Qualcomm Quick Charge devices. Also included is a voltage stabilizer to stabilize the charging currents and act as a surge protector.
The RP-PC006 model charger is the only RavPower wall charger supporting Quick Charge 3.0. However, many of their other chargers support Quick Charge 2.0, which also include a couple extra ports. There are a total of two charging ports on this model. But again, you can get other models that may support the number of ports you need as well. Max charging speeds are 5V at 2.4 amps, 9V at 2 amps, 12V at 2 amps. It is the smallest and lightest model wall charger primarily due to there only being two charging ports. As most of the wall charger models do, this includes a foldable set of prongs. The small size, light weight, and foldable prongs really play into making this a great charger for while on the go or to include in your tech bag.
Now while all of this is great, I wish RavPower could include a larger model that supports Quick Charge 3.0, multiple Quick Charge ports, and just more USB charging ports in general. These days it seems like I have no less than 3 devices needing a charge all at the same time. And I am sure most of you tech nerds out there have just as many devices if not more than me. By the time you add up a tablet or two, smartphone or two, and your smartwatch you are needing at least 5 ports total. So supporting all of this in a larger model would greatly improve usability with the same convenience and quality that RavPower offers.
That being said, overall this charger looks great, works great and all around is amazing. Just charging up your smartphone or tablet in 30-40 minutes really gives a lot of life to this wall charger. If you want to pick one up for yourself visit RavPower’s Amazon store front. This charger originally retails for $59.99, however as of the time I’m writing this it looks like Amazon has them going for $19.99. Of course, price may vary depending on when you may be reading this so please go check it out for the latest pricing.
