Gears of War 4 has been given an official release date of 11th October 2016, according to Xbox.com.
It has been five years since the last instalment in the third-person shooter series, Gears of War: Judgement and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition was released for Xbox One last year to abate the anticipation of series fans.
Gears of War 4 development studio, The Coalition, revealed to the Game Informer that the story is set 25 years before the events in the original trilogy with a new protagonist played by Liam McIntyre named JD Fenix, who is the nephew to previous series protagonist, Marcus Fenix.
Entertainment Weekly has also revealed the box art for the upcoming game, which features a windswept JD Fenix along with the games two other central characters, Kait Diaz and Del Walker. In the article, said Rod Fergusson, studio head of developer The Coalition, said “‘Weathering the storm’ was sort of our line for the key art … because we wanted that idea that the environment and the weather in particular is a big part of Gears 4 and how it affects the characters and the story and the game play,”
In the build up to the release date, the multiplayer beta kicks off on 18th April 2016, and is available on Xbox One to those who played Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on Xbox One or Windows 10, with it being available to all Xbox Live Gold members on 25th April.
