Tomb Raider raids Fifa 14's reign on UK Games Chart

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition has ended Fifa 14‘s run as number 1 on the UK Games Chart.

The definitive edition of Crystal Dynamic’s successful reboot of the Tomb Raider series was released on Friday featuring the original campaign mode, all multiplayer modes, including DLC and enhanced character and environment detail.

Within three days, Tomb Raider was able to swiftly end Fifa 14’s reign as number one since christmas, beating it by just 500 sales, according to data by GFK Chart-Track.

The game also beat Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4 and Grand Theft Auto V.

Tomb Raider tells a gripping origin story of protagonist Lara Croft, a young, recent graduate archaeologist who embarks on a trip to discover the location of Yamatai, a lost kingdom just off the coast of Japan.

Along with Dr. James Whitman, another archaeologist who is leading the expedition, the crew head deep into what’s known as the Dragon’s Triangle and get entangled in a vicious storm and they crash land on an isolated island, all separated from each other. Lara has to fight her way through the island to locate her friends and escape the island.

Launching back in March 2013, the game went on to receive critical acclaim worldwide for its incredibly detailed environments, its emotional & immersive story and the performance of Camilla Luddington, who plays Lara Croft.

Winning over 40 end of year awards, Tomb Raider was also nominated for numerous Game of the Year awards.

3.4 million copies were sold during its first month, making it the biggest opening for a game at that time, and has sold over 4 million copies as of August 2013.
