[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he writer for Mirror’s Edge has said that she won’t be returning for the sequel.
Rhianna Pratchett, the writer for the 2008 action-adventure Mirror’s Edge, has said that she won’t be writing the script for Mirror’s Edge 2, citing a number of problems she experienced during the first title’s development.
Writing on Twitter, she said: “It’s really lovely that people care enough to ask whether I’m involved with Mirror’s Edge 2, but I’m not & wasn’t asked.”
She said that the story for Mirror’s Edge wasn’t reviewed well and she considers herself a “casualty of that development process”. “Let’s face it ME1’s story didn’t review that great (for many reasons). So I consider myself a casualty of that development process,” she wrote.
“I came in late to ME1, much of it was already designed, my script was hacked up, I wasn’t happy & said so (diplomatically),” she said. Describing the project as “cool” she followed up by saying that the game was a “difficult project for all” and she no longer has contacts with the studio.
Asked if she was happy with the story, she replied: “No. The script got hacked up at the 11th hour due to a decision to remove all of Faith’s level dialogue.” She followed up: “Too much of the game had been designed before they got me in, which made what we could do more limited.”
Rhianna was also the writer for the critically acclaimed Tomb Raider reboot last March, which went on to receive nominations for Game of the Year. A sequel is currently in production and when asked if she had any involvement in the project, she wrote: “Can’t say, sorry.”
Mirror’s Edge 2, a reboot, is scheduled for release on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
