UK Auditions Planned for Star Wars: Episode VII

[dropcap]D[/dropcap]isney studios are holding UK open casting auditions for two major roles in Star Wars: Episode VII. The auditions are rumoured to be taking place at locations around the UK and Ireland including London, Dublin and Glasgow. US auditions are also due to take place this week and casting directors will visit various cities including Nashville and Chicago.

According to the BBC, one role is for a young male described as a “smart, capable” man in his late teens or early 20s. The other role is for a young female described as a “street smart and strong” orphaned girl in her late teens.

George Lucas held open casting auditions for the first Star Wars film back in the seventies, so this kind of thing is not unusual. As a result Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford were cast in major roles even though they were unknowns. It is always good to see an unknown talent become a big star due to being selected at a casting audition.

J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan (Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back) have also taken over the screenwriting duties. Kasdan did a great job with The Empire Strikes Back which is often referred to as the best Star Wars film.

Star Wars: Episode VII is due to begin filming at Pinewood Studios in spring 2014. Lucasfilm and Disney also revealed that the film is due to be released on December 18, 2015.
