[dropcap]U[/dropcap]nited Front Games have announced that they are currently developing a new Sleeping Dogs game.
The studio wrote on its official website that they were working on a new game that will be “based on the Sleeping Dogs universe”. It was not fully confirmed whether or not this new game was a full sequel to the 2012 original.
They also confirmed that a recent trademark they filed for the use of “Triad Wars” was in fact correct and it appears the new game may be entitled Sleeping Dogs: Triad Wars.
Its predecessor Sleeping Dogs – which was originally intended to be a new installment for the True Crime franchise – was released in August 2012 and received acclaim from critics, being awarded with numerous 4 star reviews and 8/9 out of 10 scores.
Whilst it was critically received well, co-developer and publisher Square Enix labeled the game a commercial failure but praised the game’s development. The game garnered 1.75 million in sales by April 2013, according to the company.
In their annual report in September, they said: “In the HD games category, we delivered three major titles in the fiscal year under review, primarily in Europe and North America.
“These titles – Sleeping Dogs, Hitman: Absolution and Tomb Raider – failed to reach their respective targets, and resulted in financially unsatisfactory consequences…,” it concluded.
Despite the “commercial failure”, United Front Games are working with Square Enix to develop a new game and UFG say they are “very happy to be working with Square Enix again”.
“We’re super-excited that it’s another game based in the Sleeping Dogs universe, it’s something we’ve wanted to do for ages,” the post continued.
UFG said that more information on the next installment will be coming in 2014.
