[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he fourth Jurassic Park film was delayed for over a decade, and became lost in “development hell” for some strange reason. The series is hugely successful, and a fourth movie seemed inevitable. According to Collider, the film now has a new title and release date; the fourth film will be called Jurassic World, and will be released in June 2015.
Jurassic World will be directed by Colin Trevorrow, who will also co-write the script with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. Steven Spielberg is also on board as an executive producer for the movie, which is reassuring.
The title is very interesting, as it implies the film will have a bigger scope than the previous entries. One crazy original idea for the film was to focus on dinosaur-human hybrids who would use conventional man-made weapons including guns. The idea was quickly scrapped years ago, although character designs for the creatures can still be found online. The current rumour circulating online speculates the film will feature a new park on the island of Isla Nublar which becomes hugely popular with thousands of visitors. It’s an interesting concept but also a familiar one that stays close to the basic plot in the first film. Hopefully the writers can come up with something new, and avoid giving fans a pure rehash of the old material. It will also be interesting to see what the dinosaurs will look like when they are created using modern CGI effects.
It’s a good time to make a new Jurassic Park film, as there is still a huge potential audience for monster movies, and movie special effects have evolved significantly. Monster movie fans have a lot to look forward to now it has been confirmed that both Godzilla and Jurassic Park are making a comeback. Such films were always popular in Japan, but they have been out of fashion for a while in Hollywood.
We’ll be getting ready to hide in the oven again come summer 2015…
