Hugh Jackman talks Wolverine reprisal in X-Men: First Class sequel

Australian actor Hugh Jackman might be clawing his way back into the franchise in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

With the return of X-Men and X2 director Bryan Singer and stars Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen joining the Marvel franchise once again, it seems all would not be the same without asking notoriously short-tempered Wolverine (a.k.a Hugh Jackman) if he fancied the reunion.

Hugh Jackman is in talks to reprise his role as Wolverine in X-Men: Days of Future Past, the upcoming sequel to Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class which was released in 2011 to favourable reviews. The actor would join a talented ensemble including James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult. Director Bryan Singer has already confirmed that original trilogy stars Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen will reprise their roles as the modern-day Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto for the alternative timeline in Days of Future Past.

Days of Future Past is a classic storyline that unfolded in two issues of Marvel Comics’ Uncanny X-Men in 1981, from writer Chris Claremont and artists John Byrne and Terry Austin. The story was partially set in an alternate future where surviving mutants have been penned in concentration camps, giant robots called Sentinels patrol America, and most of the X-Men have been hunted and killed. The film will be set in the present day where the X-Men are forced to stop a key event from unfolding in order to keep that future from ever occurring.

Jackman’s rep confirmed that talks were ongoing to E! News, meaning that the Les Miserables star could be set for an appearance. Jackman had a brief uncredited cameo in X-Men: First-Class when a young Charles Xavier and Magneto tried to recruit him in their battle against the film’s antagonist Sebastian Shaw played by Kevin Bacon.

The actor, who People Magazine named ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ in 2008, is currently filming The Wolverine, the sequel to 2009′s X-Men Origins: Wolverine that sees Logan traveling to Japan and battling the mutant Silver Samurai.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is scheduled to be released by 20th Century Fox on July 18, 2014.
