Working with Studiocanal producer David Heyman, best known for his work on the Harry Potter films, will help bring the much-loved Paddington bear to the big screen for the first time.
Recently voted as being the nation’s best-loved animated character, it’s high-time Paddington made a cinematic appearance. The film will be a CGI live action adaptation of the books originally written by Michael Bond. First released in 1958, the books have sold over 35 million copies worldwide. The film will follow the bear’s journey to Paddington station where he is found by an English family. Directorial duties will fall to Paul King.
Speaking about the project Heyman has said: ‘Paddington Bear is a universally loved character, treasured for his optimism, his sense of fair play, and his perfect manners – and of course for his unintentional talent for comic chaos. Michael Bond’s books offer such wit and wonder, and I am so delighted at this chance to bring Paddington to the big screen’.
