The biggest announcements from Ubisoft’s E3 2019 briefing

Ubisoft opened their 2019 E3 briefing by giving more information on the previously announced Watch Dogs: Legion, which has undoubtedly been one of the best reveals so far in this year’s E3. Updates for The Division 2 got a huge reaction from the crowd and a new cute and colourful Assassin’s Creed style game was announced.

Watch Dogs: Legion

Ubisoft opened its press conference this year with Watch Dogs: Legion. The game is set in London as suspected and has a new twist for the series in the form of permadeath. You can recruit any character you see into DedSec by scoping them out and completing their origin mission. Building up a vast team of hackers means that you have a variety of different skills coming from unique characters that you can rely on at any time. Watch Dogs: Legion will be released next year on 6^th March.

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint

As previously announced, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint can be played solo or in four-player co-op, but during their briefing Ubisoft announced that solo Ghosts will not have to travel alone and will be backed by computer-controlled AI squadmates. Ghost Recon: Breakpoint will also be supported for years to come, with free updates coming. A Terminator crossover was also revealed but no details were given, so keep an eye out for that one. Ahead of its release on 4^th October, a Breakpoint beta will be held in September giving players a chance to play early.

Rainbow Six: Quarantine

A new Rainbow Six instalment is on the way with a PvE co-operative shooter called Rainbow Six: Quarantine. The campaign will be set several years into the future of the Rainbow Six universe and will have three players pitting off against swarms of zombie-like creatures. No exact release date was announced but a window of early 2020 was mentioned.

The Division 2

It was announced that three new episodes will be coming to the Division 2 (2019) over the coming year, as well as a free trial for the base game from 13^th – 16^th June.

Episode one will take players to the outskirts of Washington DC to the Washington National Zoo and Trinity College as they hunt for President Ellis. This first of three episodes will be released in July this year and one week early for year 1 pass holders. There won’t be episode two until later in the year, but when it arrives players will venture to the Pentagon. Finally, episode three will release early next year and will take players back to New York City.

The Division movie was also confirmed to be getting made in collaboration with Netflix and will star Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain.

Roller Champions

Roller Champions, a new 3v3 competitive game, reminiscent of Rocket League (2015) was revealed to be free-to-play. A mix between roller derby and basketball, players must make laps around a track and score points when the goal opens up. After one lap around the track, the goal will open, but if you want to rack up more points you can risk doing more laps before attempting to score. However, if you get tackled and the opposing team gets the ball, the potential points you’ve got racked up resets to zero. Roller Champions will be released early next year, but PC payers can play now until 14^th June.

Gods and Monsters

To close out their 2019 briefing, Ubisoft announced Gods and Monsters, a game inspired by mythology that is what Assassin’s Creed (2007) might be if it was mixed with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017). Players will take on the role of Phoenix, a customisable hero who has been summoned by the Olympian gods to help them battle the evil Typhon. The story is told by legendary author Homer as he narrates the story to his grandchildren.

Uplay+

Ubisoft’s new PC subscription, Uplay+ was announced towards the end of their briefing and will give players unlimited access to its huge catalogue of games starting in September.

In addition to access to a catalogue of over 100 games, Uplay+ subscribers will also get premium editions, all add-on content, and be enrolled in beta and early access programs. The catalogue will include games such as The Division 2 (2019) and Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey (2018), as well as upcoming releases including Watch Dogs: Legion, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint and Rainbow Six: Quarantine.
