By now most of you will have witnessed the WTF moment in the debut episode of American Gods. And if somehow you’re confused by which moment I’m referring to, are you kidding me? To refresh your memory it involves a woman sucking the entirety of a man into her vagina mid-coitus. As shocking as this scene may be, television has never been shy about serving up unexpected moments throughout the years, so we decided to look back at some of the more memorable.
WARNING! Some of these clips contain violence of a graphic nature. Viewer discretion is advised.
Oz (1997-2003) – Dino makes a quick exit
[youtube id=”rr75CwTsC6E”]
In the first episode of this gritty prison drama we are introduced to convict Dino Ortolani (Jon Seda), a member of the kitchen staff who seems to have an incredible ability to upset people and be disliked. His racism garners the admiration of the Aryan Brotherhood, his homophobia sees him cripple a gay inmate and he is appalled by AIDS patients when he’s sent to work in the ward as punishment. With the episode revolving around this person, like most television programmes, one starts to assume he is the central protagonist, if not one of the main characters. Suffice to say when he ends up in solitary, his enemies catch up with him and he’s covered in flammable liquid and set on fire, burning to death.
House of Cards (2013-present) – Zoe catches a train

Congressman and house majority whip Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) is one of the most devious and conniving US politicians in television. Using his skills at manipulation, he is determined to exact revenge on those who prevented him from being appointed Secretary of State and is willing to go to extreme lengths to get satisfaction. When reporter Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara), with whom he previously had an affair to use each other for their own gains, discovers what he’s really up to and pieces together his scheming, Frank takes matters into his own hands. No stranger to murder after killing congressman Peter Russo (Corey Stoll) and making it look like suicide, he pulls off the same trick when he pushes Zoe in front of a subway train. Proof that politics can be murder.
Sons of Anarchy (2008-2014) – Trouble with the In-laws
[youtube id=”JWHKVd3fVjw”]
Despite revolving around the illegal business of a Californian biker club, Sons of Anarchy is ultimately a show about family and the internal conflicts that constantly arise within. Protagonist Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) finds himself caught between his mother Gemma (Katey Sagal) and wife Tara (Maggie Siff) several times throughout the series as the pair struggle to see eye to eye. With the threat and danger too much to handle, Tara makes a bold decision to protect her children and keep herself out of jail, a decision Jax supports. However, thinking Tara is going to take away her grandsons, Gemma takes matters into her own hands in a passionate rage, first attempting to drown Tara in a sink before stabbing her multiple time in the back of the head with a barbecue fork. Nasty!
Breaking Bad (2008-2013) – Box Cutter
[youtube id=”T1L6jQ0Pfrw”]
Walter White (Bryan Cranston) quickly became an iconic television character as viewers watched him turn from timid chemistry teacher to cold-blooded drug dealer in the space of 5 seasons. By the end he was a force to be reckoned with and had no problem putting people in their place, intimidating them with his demeanour. However, there was one person he could never rile, the calm and calculated Gustav Fring (Giancarlo Esposito). After Walt encourages Jesse (Aaron Paul) to murder fellow chemist Gale (David Costabile) and therefore foil Gus’ plan to kill and replace them, he returns to the meth lab to confront them, but says nothing. As Walt tries to plead with Gus he quietly puts on hazmat gear and picks up a box cutter. He approaches his henchman Victor (Jeremiah Bitsui) and slices his throat, much to the shock of Walt and Jesse, thus sending a clear message.
