For years now, since I was 13 years old, I have been a fan of Underoath. Ever since picking up They’re Only Chasing Safety (2004) from my local CD shop, I was hooked. So imagine my surprise when they announce a UK tour after years of being out of the spotlight.
After splitting in 2013, Underoath went quiet for a couple of years but in 2015 they came back with performances with A Day To Remember and at Self Help Fest. Suddenly, at the end of 2016, it was announced they would be touring with the Rebirth tour as well as taking part in Bring Me The Horizons American Nightmare tour.
But it gets better, on the UK leg of their shows, possibly just in certain venues, they will be performing the entirety of They’re Only Chasing and Define the Great Line (2006). This thrills me so much (maybe I should get tickets before getting so excited) as it means the songs I grew up loving, such as It’s Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door and Reinventing Your Exit and, of course, A Boy Brushed in Red Living in Black and White.
The metal/post-hardcore/emo/Christian six-piece have always been on my “to watch” list (even my girlfriend has seen them, annoyingly) but I cannot wait to see them thrash the stage, screaming for everyone to hear.
To quote Reinventing Your Exit: “Can you feel it? It takes your breath away.”
That is how I felt when I heard that this would be happening.
Let’s hope that this will not be a one-off tour, but the return of a band that have been long-missed by audiences (especially in the UK!).
Nostalgia overload…
