Two Door Cinema Club lights up Bristol O2

Fans of the indie-rock trio Two Door Cinema Club will be glad to hear that they have started off their latest tour with a bang.

Luckily, my friend and I were put on the guest list for their show at the Bristol O2 Academy on February 7, something that was new to me completely!

Considering the last time I saw Two Door I was at Glastonbury Festival 2011. It was a rainy afternoon and I was eagerly waiting to see Wu Tan Clan on the Pyramid Stage when I realised that I was watching the indie talents of Irish trio. I wouldn’t say I was instantly hooked by their music, but their fun and lively approach at the music scene was something to respect.

Six years later and here we are.

After a successful career which has spanned ten years and five CD releases, the boys have managed to go from a small-scale indie three-piece into an arena-filling band to be reckoned with. Already being named as headliners for this year’s Y Not Festival, you could say that their growing momentum as a group can be credited to the luck of the Irish.

Opening with Cigarettes in the Theatre, with flashy visuals and the upbeat sound that they are so well known for, the crowd was going crazy. Throwing in hits such as I Can Talk and Something Good Can Work, TDCC had the crowd right where they wanted them. Touring their latest album Gameshow, the crowd is obviously full of die hard fans, one of which that I was speaking to had travelled from Cardiff to watch them.

The only downside of the evening is that I was unable to see the stage for the majority of the show, probably a mix of the large crowd and me being vertically challenged!

The boys do deliver a wonderful stage presence and sound amazing live, seriously the sound quality was amazing. I wouldn’t usually pay to see things like this but I am very glad I went along none the less.
