Nintendo has set out its plans for E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) 2016 and all efforts are focused on the next Legend Of Zelda game and nothing else.
According to the Nintendo @ E3 2016 website, they are transforming their annual booth so that fans and critics alike can be immersed in the world of the long-running series’ upcoming installment. The game will be available to demo on WiiU and a Treehouse Live @ E3 event on the 14th June will livestream footage from the game as well as revealing some of the behind-the-scenes info.
The new game will also be available on Nintendo’s next gen console codenamed ‘NX’, but the console itself will not be making an appearance, with Nintendo saying they’ll be revealing more details later in 2016 before its release in March 2017.
This is not the only notable absence from Nintendo’s usual E3 line up. The emphasis on the Treehouse Live event has sparked rumours that there will be no pre-recorded Nintendo Direct conference for the Expo, a staple of Nintendo’s E3 presence over the last few years. Meanwhile, fans hoping for more news on other games releasing in late 2016/early 2017 will have to wait as the new Zelda will be the only Nintendo game on show.
The news has polarised opinion online. While some fans believe that the wait will be worth it and that Nintendo just want to make sure the NX will be ready in time with games at launch, especially after the WiiU’s poor sales, others are calling Nintendo out on their marketing strategies and other changes implemented since Tatsumi Kimishima became Head of Nintendo in September 2015.
