David Lynch leaves Twin Peaks – cast and fans angry

It was announced last week that David Lynch has walked away from the new Twin Peaks project because of a funding dispute.

The writer and director took to Twitter to explain his decision.

After 1 year and 4 months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done.

In response, the network, Showtime, said they hoped to reach a solution and get Lynch back on board to work alongside Mark Frost, the co-creator of Twin Peaks. But Lynch had already begun calling cast members.

This weekend I started to call actors to let them know I would not be directing. Twin Peaks may still be very much alive at Showtime.

The cast are fiercely loyal to the director, and started a campaign for his return with the hashtag #SaveTwinPeaks, before posting this video:

Fans have also set up a petition to plead for Lynch’s reinstatement, with over 22,000 signatures at the time of writing.

Lynch and Showtime are yet to respond to the developments, and the hope is that the two parties are fleshing out a deal to get Twin Peaks moving again.
