Today is a very special day. It’s Christmas Card Day, International Anti-Corruption Day, National Pastry Day, but most importantly and probably more cared about, today, December 9th, principal photography has begun for Spectre, the new James Bond film seeing the return of director Sam Mendes, and Daniel Craig as James Bond along with Rory Kinnear as Tanner, Ben Whishaw as Q, Naomie Harris as Miss Moneypenny and Ralph Fiennes taking over the role of M after Judie Dench’s tear-jerking, yet necessary demise in Skyfall.
Oscar winner Christoph Waltz has been slated to play Oberhouser, the son of an Austrian climbing and skiing instructor, who formed a deep father-son relationship with Bond but mysteriously disappeared. Rumours speculate that Waltz will be introduced as the Austrian’s son, but then be revealed as Ernst Stavro Blofeld, the leader of the global crime organization SPECTRE (Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, and Extortion). Also new to the team is Léa Seydoux (Blue is the Warmest Color) as Madelein Swann and Monica Belucci as Lucia Sciarra.
The only info we currently have regarding the plot is that a cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him trudging through layers of deceit and corruption in order to reveal the terrible truth behind the sinister SPECTRE, while the new M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive.
Interstellar cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema is shooting with Mendes, and Aston Martin has designed the new DB10 specifically for the film. I think it’s safe to say that we are definitely in for an exciting ride.
Spectre has an expected release date of November 6, 2015.
