Watch Dogs sells over 8 million copies

Watch Dogs has sold-in more than 8 million copies, Ubisoft announced today.

The company unveiled during its first quarter results today that the hacker-thriller, which launched on May 27th for current-gen and next-gen consoles, has gone on to sell over 8 million copies to retailers.

Watch Dogs also drove Ubisoft’s sales, up 374% to €360 million.

It previously broke the record as the biggest release in Ubisoft’s history and has since sold-through more than 4 million copies.

“The success of Watch Dogs and the quality of our games portfolio presented at this year’s E3 highlight our strategic positioning as well as our continuous drive for innovation, and affirm our long-term approach,” said Yves Guillemot, co-founder and CEO, Ubisoft.

“Watch Dogs is now well positioned as a major franchise and we will be able to replicate and build on its success in the coming years.”

Set in Chicago, you play as Aiden Pearce, a hacker and former thug, who’s criminal past lead to a violent family tragedy. Whilst seeking justice for those events, you’ll monitor and hack those around you by manipulating the ctOS from the palm of your hand.

It launched on May 27th for current-gen, next-gen consoles and PC.

Roobla’s own critic, Liam Tobin, recently reviewed the game scoring it a 7.9 out of 10.

The first mission-based DLC content pack launched earlier this week.
