Blizzard Entertainment Producer leaves for Star Citizen developer

A former Lead Game Producer at Blizzard Entertainment is leaving to join another studio.

Alex Mayberry will be joining the makers of the crowd funded space simulator Star Citizen, Cloud Imperium Games and will oversee development of the title as well as managing the studio’s distributed development process across all production studios.

Beginning as a Level Designer for Xatrix Entertainment, Mayberry went on to hold positions with Electronic Arts and Kalisto Entertainment.

He was also Creative Director and Executive Producer for America’s Army and moved onto Blizzard Entertainment as a Producer, working on the World of Warcraft expansion packs and Lead Game Producer for Diablo III.

“After 10 years at Blizzard, I didn’t think that there was anything that could ever get me to leave,” said Mayberry. “But then Chris invited me to come check out Start Citizen, and after seeing the game and listening Chris to talk about his vision, I knew that I had to be a part of it.”

The title is the highest-ranking crowd funded project ever, raising more than $43.6 million since launching in October 2012.
