Sundance set to Score for a Third Time in London

A memorable hat-trick will be scored next month – and we’re not talking about this season’s Premier League title race either! April will see the Sundance Film Festival hit London for the third year running, with confirmation of the line-up for 2014 hot off the press.

Yes, Robert Redford‘s annual jamboree is now proving that it’s not only One Direction that are a hit on both sides of the Atlantic. The festival is now also celebrating its 30th anniversary, with the youthful but fast-growing UK branch promising to deliver its best show yet.

In true Sundance fashion, there is going to be something cutting-edge and completely different from the norm served up at the O2 from April 25-27. These days Hollywood leans all too heavily on special effects and superheroes, which the festival will be far removed from. It’s going to be very much a case of ‘move over L.A.’, as places such as Kentucky, Nevada and New Mexico will provide the settings for most of the films. It will almost be a hark back to the Tinseltown of old, something of which the Sundance Kid himself would surely approve.

There will be plenty of musical diversions for the fans, but it’s all about the movies. A grand total of 39 flicks make up the schedule, long and short, with no less than 23 of them premiering in some form. One feature that is hotly-anticipated is the winner of the Grand Jury: Dramatic and Audience Award, Fruitvale Station, whilst the pick of the shorts include The Cut and Of Gods and Dogs.

Stepping out for Team GB are Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon in the European Premiere of Michael Winterbottom‘s The Trip to Italy, the follow-up to the trio’s 2010 hit The Trip. Also in the UK Spotlight section is Frank, a comedy about a rookie musician who joins a band led by the titular character, played by Michael Fassbender, complete with his rather large, papier-mache head.

Whisper it, but we’re pretty sure that Mr Redford has no plans on a One Direction screening anytime soon.
