David Fincher, currently in talks to direct the planned biopic of Apple CEO Steve Jobs, has said that his ideal choice of actor to star would be Christian Bale. According to The Wrap, Fincher has met with Amy Pascale at Sony to discuss his involvement, and apparently intimated that he would only helm the film if Bale is cast.
The Batman star drew a lot of attention with his Oscar nominated performance in David O. Russell’s American Hustle, and has recently wrapped production on Ridley Scott’s Exodus, where his performance as Moses is also expected to cause some noise as far as awards are concerned. As of yet Bale has not been approached for the role of Jobs, and is currently on ‘hiatus’, although he will be back on our screens soon in a couple of Terence Malick directed films.
The script for the untitled film has been written by Aaron Sorkin. Sorkin’s previous work includes Moneyball, The Social Network (also directed by Fincher) and The West Wing, so it seems he was the perfect choice to condense the life and work of Jobs into cinematic form. The film will be made up of three long scenes, each one focused on the release of a different Apple product (the Mac, NeXT, and the iPod).
This will not be the first film to concentrate on the Apple CEO, who died in 2011; 2013 saw the release of jOBS, starring Ashton Kutcher and directed by Joshua Michael Stern, but a Fincher/Bale/Sorkin production is sure to pull it off with more skill.
It looks as though production on the film will not begin until 2015, with a planned 2016 release date.
