This new trailer for Transformers 4: Age of Extinction contains plenty of action and it also sheds light on some plot details.
It focuses on Mark Wahlberg’s character, Cade Yeager, a single father who is struggling to make a living as a mechanic. He buys an old truck with the intention of fixing it up and selling it for a profit but soon learns there is more to it than meets the eye. It turns out the truck is actually Optimus Prime who appears to be in some kind of hibernating, dormant state. A bunch of men in black types turn up on Yeager’s doorstep looking for Prime and they threaten to hurt his daughter, Tessa (Nicola Peltz) if he refuses to cooperate. Prime wakes up just in time to help Yeager and his daughter escape from the government agents but they soon learn there is a bigger threat. The Decepticons have decided to invade Earth again so Yeager and Prime will have to find the other Autobots. Only then can they stand a chance against the Decepticons and try to save the planet.
Wahlberg looks convincing in the trailer and he is very good at playing everyman characters that the audience can root for. Choosing him for the role of Cade Yeager was good casting. Kelsey Grammar also stars in the film as a paranoid government agent which is interesting. The other supporting cast actors include Stanley Tucci, Sophia Myles, Jack Reynor, Han Geng and Li Bingbing.
The trailer will please fans of the series as it gives old favorites like Optimus Prime and Bumblebee a bit of screen time. It also shows off the Dinobots who haven’t appeared in a Transformers movie until now. They have the ability to transform into robot dinosaurs instead of vehicles like the regular transformers which is unusual. They are usually good guys so it is strange to see them fighting Optimus Prime in the trailer. It will be interesting to learn why they are fighting when the feature film is released. The special effects in the action scenes look good and the robot designs are quite stylish. The tone is also more serious as there is no goofy or immature humor in the trailer which makes a change for the series.
Transformers 4: Age of Extinction will be released on June 27 in the US and on July 10th in the UK. Check out the trailer and share your thoughts.
