The new Godzilla movie, directed by Gareth Edwards and due out this year has a new trailer which sheds more light on some things. It gives viewers a good look at the characters including Bryan Cranston’s frustrated physicist Joe Brody who knows that the military is hiding something. Some other characters are also shown including Ken Watanabe who plays a Japanese scientist. He implies that nuclear testing in the 1950’s may be connected to the appearance of Godzilla which is a nice nod to the first Godzilla movie made in 1954. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and Juliette Binoche also appear in brief glimpses too.
Godzilla itself isn’t shown clearly in the trailer which lends the creature an air of mystery. This is a smart move as it gives fans something to look forward to when the creature is fully revealed in the full movie. Viewers are given an impression of how huge Godzilla is though in fleeting glimpses which is a nice touch.
The trailer is rather tense and atmospheric as Joe Brody warns the military that something wicked this way comes. Tension is then built up as scenes of the devastation caused by the creature are shown and people are seen trying to evacuate the danger zones. The choral music used throughout the trailer is also suitably dramatic and it helps set the right tone. It does a good job of reinforcing the idea that some aspects of nature are beyond human control and messing around with nukes can lead to disastrous consequences.
Godzilla will be out on May 16th so look out for it. Also, check out the trailer and share your thoughts.
