The new Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer was shown at the American Super Bowl 2014 and now it is also online. Like the new Captain America trailer it features plenty of action and is a showcase for the new villains in the film.
Andrew Garfield returns in the sequel as Peter Parker who is in a relationship with Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy. Parker is also trying to prevent his Aunt May (Sally Field) from finding out he is Spider-Man while fighting crime on a regular basis. Unfortunately, things get even more complicated when three new villains start wreaking havoc on the city. This deadly trio consists of Electro (Jamie Foxx) who can manipulate electricity, Rhino (Paul Giamatti) who fights inside a huge armored suit and Green Goblin (played here by Dane DeHaan.)
Having three new villains in the same film is a difficult trick to pull off. Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 tried this approach and it didn’t really work. There is a danger that three villains can overload the plot and each bad guy may not get enough screen time to really shine. Time will tell if the aptly named director, Marc Webb can make it work.
The trailer itself is a success as it does a good job of showing the villains especially Jamie Foxx who looks convincing. There is also plenty of humour in the trailer which is great as it matches the style and spirit of the comic books. Most of the humour shown involves Peter’s attempts to extricate himself from tricky situations where his cover is nearly blown in front of Aunt May. It’s also a vivid trailer as it features some rather colourful cinematography which befits a comic book movie like this.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be out on April 18th. Check out the trailer and share your thoughts.
