[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he next instalment in the Hitman series has been confirmed as cancelled, according to a report by Video Gamer.
The action-adventure stealth game, announced in 2011, was scheduled to be released on next-gen consoles by Square Enix Montreal, making it the company’s first production. It was said to be a re-imagining of the Hitman series that features first & third person combat, micro transactions and leaderboards.
However, according to the profile of Richard Knight, a Senior Game Designer, on LinkedIn, the game was cancelled last year and the Square Enix team are now focusing on mobile titles. Another profile of a Network Engineer, Anthonny Pressacco, backs up the claims as well. An “unannounced Hitman game” is to be released for Android and iOS, Pressacco’s profile claims.
Square Enix have never made an announcement regarding the cancellation of the next-gen title, nor have they yet to announce the game for mobile devices.
In the past, LinkedIn profile have been a constant source for news regarding whether a title is in development or what the release date for an upcoming is. During the development of GTA V, many profiles popped up on the resume hosting site from people claiming to be working on the new GTA V game and they revealed release dates for the game – none of which were correct.
We’ve reached out to Square Enix for official comment – so far, no word back.
