Speculation about Captain America: The Winter Soldier has been rife on the internet for months, fans and movie buffs have pored over every rumour and screenshot for answers to try and learn about the plot. Now the trailer is finally here and the film looks very interesting.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and takes place two years after the events that transpired in Avengers Assemble. Steve Rogers aka Captain America (played again by Chris Evans) continues to work for S.H.I.E.L.D as a field agent but starts to have doubts about their ideology. He has a new boss called Alexander Pierce (played by Robert Redford in a surprise role) and new sidekicks too including Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and The Falcon (Anthony Mackie.)
Black Widow teams up with Rogers to face a new bad guy called The Winter Soldier who turns out to be Rogers’s old friend Bucky from Captain America: The First Avenger. Bucky (Sebastian Stan) was presumed dead but survived somehow, he was then apparently brainwashed and turned into an evil assassin although his master plan is not revealed in the trailer. Rogers has to try and figure out what his old mate Bucky is trying to accomplish and figure out if there is a puppet master behind him pulling the strings.
The trailer combines humour with some thrilling action scenes and a few brief introductions to the main characters. Captain America, Black Widow, The Falcon and Winter Soldier all appear in dramatic fashion to give viewers a nice glimpse of things to come. Plot details are really vague but that is not a bad thing as it means the viewer won’t already know the full story before they see the film. There are also a few hints that S.H.I.E.L.D is abusing its power and the leader of the organization Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is becoming increasingly paranoid. He fears America is incapable of defending itself from serious threats after the Avengers Assemble crisis and this affects his code of ethics. Steve Rogers also tries to come to terms with his life in the modern world, a world where things are not black and white and the line between good guys and bad guys gets blurred.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier appears to have a gritty realistic tone which makes it different from other superhero films like Thor or Iron Man. It has the potential to be even better than the first film and fans can check it out when it’s released on March 26th 2014. Check out the trailer and share your thoughts.
