[dropcap]T[/dropcap]here have been a lot of rumours circulating on the internet lately about Joss Whedon’s Avengers sequel, known as The Avengers: Age of Ultron. The latest rumour which comes from Bleeding Cool states that Elizabeth Olsen may appear in the film. The actress, who has appeared in films such as Martha Marcy May Marlene, is apparently being considered for the role of Scarlet Witch aka Wanda Maximoff, a popular character from Marvel comic books, and a mutant with magic powers that allow her to alter reality.
Saoirse Ronan was also considered for the role and was up until now the most likely candidate to get the part. Olsen is a very talented actress and she would be a good choice for Scarlet Witch, who is a unique and interesting character. Both actresses are excellent performers and either one would bring something interesting to the role, however all rumours point to the focus having switched from Ronan to Olsen.
Scarlet Witch is the sibling of another mutant called Quicksilver, aka Pietro Maximoff, a man who can move at superhuman speeds. Both characters will appear in the film and Aaron Taylor-Johnson from Kick-Ass has already been cast as Pietro. The siblings are the children of Magneto, but it’s unclear if that part of their history will feature in the plot. Quicksilver will also appear in Bryan Singer’s new time travel X-Men movie, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and the character will be played by Evan Peters in that film.
It’s pretty cool that Hollywood is starting to introduce lesser known characters from the Marvel universe to cinema fans; the Marvel world is full of unique super heroes and villains and they could really shine on the big screen.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released in 2015.
