Grab your red hoody, put new batteries in your Speak and Spell and head over to Madame Tussauds, because E.T is coming back to town. Let’s hope he can just call his ship on a smartphone when he needs picking up.
To coincide with the release of E.T: The Extra-Terrestrial on Blu Ray on its 30th anniversary, six of the world’s Madame Tussauds are immortalizing Elliot’s best buddy in all his waxy glory. London, Tokyo, Sydney, Amsterdam, Berlin and Hollywood will be unveiling the birthday boy on October 22nd 2012. All six waxworks are currently having their finishing touches applied at Merlin Studios in London, before they make their journeys across the globe.
Visitors will be able to step in to Elliot’s shoes and take his place on the seat of a BMX as the famous scene is recreated with the full moon as the shining backdrop. The scene itself was recently voted the Universal Studios ‘Most Memorable Movie Moment’ by fans. Although, we think the frog scene is worth a mention.
It’s hard to believe that it has been 30 years since the original release of the Steven Spielberg film, launching the careers of Henry Thomas and Drew Barrymore. The digitally remastered Blu ray will also be released on 22nd October, and will contain all sorts of never-before-seen footage, plus the all-important Director interview with Spielberg. We can’t wait.
