The news that Carrie was getting the remake treatment was met with mixed reception when it originally surfaced. Several months on, and with an impressive cast to boot, is this remake really going to be so bad?
Okay, so history dictates that remakes usually disappoint. Having garnered the love of film fans for years, sometimes even decades, a film generates a certain mythos that is jeopardised when a film company gets its mits on the film’s rights.
The cinematic adaptation of Stephen King’s first novel Carrie is no exception. Telling the story of a telekinetic girl who goes on the war path after she is ridiculed one time too many, the original featured Sissy Spacek as Carrie White. The remake is set to feature Chloe Grace Moretz, star of Kick Ass and Dark Shadows and Julianne Moore as her over-bearing religious mother.
We’re quite excited here on Roobla to see what they come up with. Will the film live up to the tacky horror of the original? Will THAT scene still pack a punch? Or will the film merely pander to a new generation numb to the horror that is school bullying?
A new teaser trailer has been released for the remake, set to be released 5th April 2013. Showing the destructive power of Moretz’s Carrie the teaser suggests that the film could actually be pretty good. It’s one of the downfalls of remakes that a bloody Carrie, perhaps the original’s most disturbing sight, is featured prominently in the film’s promotional material.
Having said that, Chloe Grace Moretz looks suitably psycho. What the film lacks in surprises we hope it’ll make up for in merit.
