The huge success of The Avengers has proved too tempting for Joss Whedon. His new TV series S.H.I.E.L.D is a go, and looks set to feature a host of new characters.
We all saw Avengers Assemble over the summer. Chances are you’ve rented it since its release on DVD and Blu Ray. Soon we’ll be able to tune in and catch up with the team behind those Avengers, S.H.I.E.L.D. The series will feature a new set of characters for us to follow, and be set in the universe that we are all familiar with. Whedon recently spoke to MTV News where he explained the outline for the extension to the Marvel family:
“It needs to be adjacent [to the MCU] but you don’t want to do a show where you’re constantly going, ‘Iron Man just left, but he was totally here a minute ago.'”
He will be writing the series along with his brother Jed Whedon and is also gearing up for Avengers 2. He almost declined the sequel after deliberating for three months on whether to retake the reigns. Thankfully for all of us, Whedon chose to once again delve back in to the world of Iron Man, Hulk, Thor et al and we will all be enjoying the end result in 2015.
In the meantime, those over the pond looking for a Joss Whedon fix to tide them over can enjoy the independent film Much Ado About Nothing, in which the Shakespearean tale of the same name gets the Whedon treatment. The film was premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and was filmed in the Director’s own mansion. No dates on its UK release yet, unfortunately.
