This week in trailer-land there are exciting new releases for both Prometheus and Snow White and the Huntsman, while Twi-hards are being tormented to distraction with a new teaser trailer for Breaking Dawn Part 2…
Sound of My Voice
Starring Brit Marling (of Another Earth fame), Sound of My Voice is the disturbing story of two investigative journalists who go undercover to infiltrate what appears to be a strange modern day cult. The cult is led by the mysterious Maggie (Marling), a woman who claims to be from the future; the year 2054, to be exact. At first the journalists (Christopher Denham and Nicole Vicius) are only there to get the story, but gradually they become sucked into the world of Maggie and her followers. Sound of My Voice was an official selection of the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, and looks to be an eerie and absorbing examination of modern society.
Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted
In the third instalment of Madagascar, everyone’s favourite animal troupe is still struggling to find their way back to New York. When they jump onto a train full of circus animals they must team up with them in order to get a ride back to the Big Apple. Of course, this means they will have to come up with an amazing routine in order to convince everyone that they really are circus animals, with ridiculous consequences. Once again featuring the voice talents of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock and David Schwimmer, Madagascar 3 will be contending with the likes of animated heavyweights Brave and The Lorax for the attention of young film fans this year.
Prometheus
The second trailer for Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel lets the viewer in on a little more of the background to the space mission, flashes a few more famous faces on the screen (namely Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron) and is just generally terrifying. Apparently, our protagonists are lured into space by a series of cave paintings found in ancient Earth civilisations which seem to be some sort of invitation to come and visit. Of course, once they’re in space (where no-one can hear you scream) things start to go very wrong in a variety of ever-more disturbing ways. If the trailer alone is this scary, the film itself is going to have people running screaming out of the theatre.
Snow White and the Huntsman
A second trailer has also been released for dark fantasy drama Snow White and the Huntsman starring Kristin Stewart. This new trailer reveals far more about the direction the plot of the film will take, and also gives the viewer more glimpses of the amazing CGI used in battle scenes, as well as the creepy looking dark forest. In this version, it looks as though Snow White’s beauty will have a magical effect on the dark forest, changing it from spooky to spectacular; the trailer includes some mesmerising scenes of lush green woodland filled with cute creatures and frolicking fairies. But, there is still plenty of darkness and danger to be dealt with in the shape of Charlize Theron’s Evil Queen, who is bent on eating Snow White’s heart.
Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2
A fourteen second teaser of Breaking Dawn Part 2 is whetting the appetites of Twi-hards the world over. This new trailer is a textbook example of a teaser, tantalising the viewer with brief glimpses of Bella Swan (Kristin Stewart) dashing through a forest, presumably making good use of her new vampire skills. We then see Jacob (Taylor Lautner) telling an unseen Bella: ‘I didn’t expect you to seem so…you’. Then there is a close-up of Bella and Edward (Robert Pattinson) holding hands, after which Edward tells her ‘we’re the same temperature now’. But, we are never shown Bella’s full face or body; the producers are clearly trying to keep her vampire form under wraps for just a tiny bit longer. Still, it looks as though it won’t be long before the streets are once again teeming with sparkly-skinned teenage lookalikes.
