Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Released: 2nd December
In a nutshell: Harry, Ron and Hermione face the oncoming threat of Voldemort head on in this epic finale. Deaths, tears and an emotional climax fitted as standard.

Relative to buy this for: This is family friendly stuff. If you’re feeling particularly generous maybe you could buy them the entire series – then you’d be quits for the next seven Christmases.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Released: 28th November
In a nutshell: Michael bay pits the Autobots against bigger threats which, in turn, lead to bigger explosions. Beware Megan Fox fans – she was jettisoned from the franchise before the film was made and was replaced with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley..
Rating: 8/10
Relative to buy this for: Older children, uncles who like explosions and models.

The Hangover Part II
Released: 5th December
In a nutshell: The boys are back and suffering from an even worse hangover than they did before. The films sticks to a if-it-aint-broke-don’t-fix-it mentality but the shocks are upped.

In a nutshell: J.J. Abrams does Spielberg in this mysterious sci-fi. We follow a bunch of kids as they try and uncover a government secret…

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

In a nutshell: ROTPOTA chronicles the origin of the species that leads to the downfall of man in later (or earlier, depending on how you want to look at it) films. Andy Serkis utilises his honed mo-cap skills.
