The most anticipated game releases of January 2019

2018 was an exciting year for games with plenty of huge blockbusters that we’re not yet done with. 2019 is shaping up to be just as big with some great and long awaited titles being released in January alone.

Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition

Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch

Release: 11th January

Celebrate the 10th anniversary of Tales of Vesperia with a brand new definitive edition.

Tales of Vesperia tells a story of a power struggle between a civilization dependent on an ancient technology, known as the blastia, and the Empire that controls it. The fates of two friends traveling on separate paths intertwine in an adventure that threatens the existence of all.

The definitive version of this game has updated and full HD graphics, brand-new music tracks, mini-games, bosses, new characters, and a collection of unreleased costume DLC.

Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on 11th January.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

Platform: Switch

Release: 11th January

Take on two side-scrolling Mario adventures with up to three friends as you try to save the Mushroom Kingdom. With New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe you get two games in one to double the fun with New Super Mario Bros. U  and the harder and faster New Super Luigi U.

Straightforward controls, new playable characters, gameplay that is optimised for younger and less-experienced players, and a wealth of bonus content make this a perfect game for both Mario veterans and those just getting introduced to the series.

Tackle 164 platforming courses across the two main game modes and enjoy extra replayability with three additional game modes: Challenges, Boost Rush, and Coin Battle!

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe will be making its way to Nintendo Switch on 11th January.

Ace Combat 7

Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Release: 18th January

Ace Combat 7 puts players straight into the cockpit of some of the most advanced war planes ever created. Set in 2019 during a conflict between the Osean Federation and the Kingdom of Erusea, the game delivers a fierce air combat experience created through photorealistic visuals, intense dog-fighting action, a multitude of authentic and futuristic aircraft to fly and an immersive storyline.

PlayStation 4 players will be able to make use of VR in exclusive missions developed specifically for PlayStation VR.

Ace Combat 7 will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 18th January.

The Raven Remastered

Platform: Switch

Release: 22nd January

The full graphical remaster of the 2013 point-and-click game The Raven: The Legacy of a Master Thief is making its way to Nintendo Switch after also being released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One last year.

When an ancient and precious ruby is stolen from the British Museum, the only clue to be found is a single raven feather, a nod to The Raven, a legendary master thief who disappeared years earlier.  The classic whodunit adventure takes place in 1960s London where you get to explore a thrilling crime story through the eyes of multiple characters

The Raven Remastered will be available on 22nd January on Nintendo Switch.

Resident Evil 2 (remake)

Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Release: 25th January

The genre-defining masterpiece Resident Evil 2 returns this month completely rebuilt from the ground up for a deeper narrative experience. Players join rookie police officer Leon Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield as they try to escape the disastrous outbreak in Raccoon City that is turning its inhabitants into zombies. Both Leon and Claire have their own separate playable campaigns, allowing players to see the story from different perspectives. The fate of these two  characters is in players hands as they work together to survive and get to the bottom of what is behind the terrifying attack on the city.

This new remake of Resident Evil 2 offers a fresh take on the classic survival horror series with breathtakingly realistic visuals, heart-poundingly immersive audio, a new over-the-shoulder camera angle, and modernized controls on top of gameplay modes from the original game.

Resident Evil 2 and all the nightmares it brings with it returns on 25th January on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy

Platform: Switch

Release: 29th January

After 16 years, Sphinx and The Cursed Mummy is coming to Nintendo Switch.The 3rd person action-adventure game inspired by the mythology of ancient Egypt follows the story of Sphinx and his trusty mummy friend as they travel the world via magical portals to foil the plans of the dark god, Set.

Sphinx has an increasing array of skills that he can use to take on deadly mythical monsters and avoid perilous traps. When his strength and combat skills aren’t needed, Sphinx can call upon the mummy and his unconventional antics to solve puzzles and sabotage enemies right under their noses. The immersive gameplay brings you a mythical world based on Egyptian legends to life that has you interact with hundreds of unique and imaginative characters.

Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy will be available on Nintendo Switch on 29th January.

Kingdom Hearts III

Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Release: 29th January

Discover the beautiful worlds of Disney and Pixar in the third instalment of the Kingdom Heart series. In this heart-warming tale of friendship, Sora joins Donald Duck and Goofy as they travel across the lands to defeat the evil force, Heartless, from overtaking the universe.

Along the way Sora, Donald and Goofy unite with iconic Disney-Pixar characters from the worlds of Frozen, Tangled, Wreck it Ralph, Pirates of the Caribbean, Monsters Inc and many more to overcome the tremendous challenge that face them on their quest.

Kingdom Hearts III will be released on 29th January on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
