September sees the release of some long-awaited titles, including the brand-new Spider-Man game and the latest instalment of the Tomb Raider series. Both these series are very well known but these two games in particular are aiming to take a new direction. The Nintendo Switch is continuing to expand its library by adding several quirky indie games that are perfect for the handheld console.
SPIDER-MAN
Platform: PlayStation 4
Release: 7th September
Insomniac Games have teamed up with Marvel to create a brand-new Spider-Man adventure. This new story sees a more experienced Peter Parker, who after years behind the mask, has perfected his crime fighting abilities. Despite making a name for himself as Spider-Man, Peter is struggling to balance his personal life and career with the responsibilities that being a crime fighter brings. Set in an open-world New York City, players can swing through vibrant neighbourhoods catching views of iconic Marvel and Manhattan landmarks all while using environmental hazards, dynamic aerobatics, and improvisational combat to defeat enemies with epic takedowns in true super hero fashion.
Marvel’s Spider-Man is a PlayStation 4 Exclusive and will release on 7th September.
SHADOW OF THE TOMB RAIDER
Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release: 14th September
Lara Croft is back and she’s deadlier than ever. Now an experienced archaeologist, Lara must master survive an unforgiving jungle in order save the world from the Mayan apocalypse that she accidentally brought on. Navigating through tombs more terrifying and complex than ever before, players step into the shoes of a deeply troubled Lara who is struggling with her own personal demons as she fights off Trinity once again to continue her growth into the ultimate Tomb Raider. A season pass for the game will also be available that gets you seven new challenge tombs, seven new weapons, outfits, and skills, as well gives you access to multiple narrative side missions.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider releases on 14th September and will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox one.
BLIND
Platform: PlayStation 4
Release: 14th September
Blind is a brand-new narrative-driven psychological thriller for PlayStation VR. Blind and seemly alone in a strange mansion with nothing but your cane, you must use sound to navigate the strange world around you. Tapping your cane to send out sound waves will briefly reveal your surroundings but these will soon disappear as your sight returns to its lessened state. You will experience anxiety and emotional tension as you travel deeper into the dangerous puzzle riddled world.
Blind will release on 14th September as a VR game for PlayStation 4.
LITTLE DRAGONS CAFÉ
Platform: PlayStation 4, Switch
Release: 21st September
The Nintendo Switch has been lacking in the simulation department with Harvest Moon being severely missed. While Harvest Moon isn’t making the move to Switch just now, the creators of the Harvest Moon series (1996) are bringing one of their creations to the console with Little Dragon’s Café, a new adorable simulation game. Taking over the management of your own café, you must work together with your twin to care for your sick mother and raise the baby dragon that has been bestowed onto you by a mysterious stranger. In order to have a successful café and keep your customers happy, you must explore the island and harvest ingredients create new culinary masterpieces.
Little Dragons Café will release on 21st September on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
CANDLE
Platform: PlayStation 4, Switch
Release: 21st September
Playing as Teku, you embark on a dangerous journey to rescue your tribe’s shaman from a rival tribe in Teku Studios new adventure puzzle, Candle. The world is littered with sinister traps and puzzles and while always being on your guard, you must pay attention to all details of the beautifully hand-painted watercolour world to solve the challenging puzzles.
Already available on Xbox One and PC, Candle will be released on PlayStation 4 and Switch on 21st September.
JAGGED ALLIANCE RAGE
Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch
Release: 25th September
Set 20 years after the original game, Jagged Alliance is back with a new take on turn-based tactics. Jagged Alliance Rage is a spin off game that lets you experience a road trip from hell into the jungle as you and a handful of allies take on an entire island ruled by a crazed drug overlord and his army. On the brink of breakdown with no outside support you must lead a team of quirky and seasoned mercenaries and use tactical and guerrilla tactics to destroy enemy structures and regain control of the island.
Jagged Alliance Rage will be released on 25th September and will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch,
VALKYRIA CHRONICLES 4
Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch
Release: 25th September
Valkyria Chronicles 4 takes places in the same timeframe as the original game but focuses on a new cast of characters from Squad E of the Federation. Set on the continent of Europe where the Second European War is fought, you set out to fight in a last-ditch effort to end the war and capture the imperial capital, but first you must battle through bone-chilling blizzards, waves of imperial soldiers, and the godlike powers of the Valkyria.
Valkyria Chronicles 4 will be released on 25th September on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
FLIPPING DEATH
Platform: PlayStation 4, Switch
Release: 28th September
Flipping Death takes place in Flatwood Peaks, a small whimsical town with a one tiny problem – Death is on vacation. Playing as Penny, you must take on Death’s job and help trapped ghosts with your trusty scythe. Travelling between the worlds of the living and dead to solve puzzles, you slowly start to uncover the mystery surrounding your own death.
MOONLIGHTER
Platform: PlayStation 4
Release: 28th September
Moonlighter is an action RPG with roguelike elements that follows the story of Will, his everyday routines and his secret dreams of becoming a hero. During an archeological excavation, a set of gates are discovered and people quickly realized that these ancient passages lead to different realms and dimensions. The discovery of a small village called Rynoka provides Will with the Treasure and the brave and reckless adventures that he dreams of.
