After days of big announcements, Nintendo brings the press conferences of E3 2018 to an end, bring with it more details of upcoming Switch games. Focusing mainly on Super Smash Bros, Nintendo went into a lot detail for what might be one of the biggest games of the year.
NINTENDO
FIRE EMBLEM: THREE HOUSES
Nintendo and Intelligent System’s strategy-RPG series Fire Emblem is coming to Switch with Fire Emblem: Three Houses being announced during the Nintendo Direct press conference.
The new game stays true to traditional Fire Emblem gameplay using the grid-based combat system that the series is known for. A big difference between this new game and previous titles is that when you go into battle, instead of fighting an enemy one-on-one, you command your own small army who join in with the attack. The game’s protagonist is brand-new to the series and as there were no familiar faces in the trailer, it’s unknown if any will be any returning characters. Recent fire emblem games have allowed some exploration however, Three Houses will allow you to fully explore a 3D world.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses will be available on Nintendo Switch in Spring 2019.
FORTNITE: BATTLE ROYALE
As predicted, the hugely popular Fortnite is now on Switch. You can now battle to be the last man standing wherever you are, providing you have an internet connection.
Gameplay seems to work very well on the Switch and you will be able to play cross-platform with Xbox One, PC, and iOS. One thing that is missing on Switch though is the Save the World PvE mode.
Fortnite: Battle Royale is out now for Switch, download for free on the Nintendo e-shop.
POKÉMON LET’S GO
Coming into E3, we already had lots of details on Pokémon Let’s Go but Nintendo had more to tell during their conference.
We now know that you will be able to catch starter Pokémon in the wild. These Pokémon will be much rarer that others but they are there to catch if you come across them. Pokémon will be available to catch in new locations, meaning that Pokémon that were exclusive to one area are now also available elsewhere in the region.
Nintendo also revealed that if you purchase the Poké Ball Plus joy-con controller you will receive Mew as an exclusive Pokémon.
Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee along with the Poké Ball Plus controller will be available for Switch on 16th November.
SUPER SMASH BROS ULTIMATE
We know that Super Smash Bros was coming to Switch, but what we found out at E3 is that it will be a whole new game specifically built for Switch and not a port of the most recent franchise instalment.
We also learned that Super Smash Bros Ultimate will include every character that’s ever appeared in the series as well as two new chracters: Splatoon’s Inkling and Ridley from Metroid, bringing the total number of characters to over 60. Super Smash Bros Ultimate allows to choose what character you as play as after choosing the stage, meaning that you can choose your character based on the best stage for their style.
