In days before Deadpool (2016), Logan (2017), The Punisher (cannot even recall) or even Spawn (don’t ask), there have been comic book movies that have proved the product doesn’t come with a child-friendly sticker.
Recently more films have been hitting the screen with a more adult take on the genre. Batman v Superman (2016) may not have been everyone’s cup of tea (I loved it except bloody Lex) but I think that it may have been a good move for the DCEU, bear with me on this.
I think comic book films need to step away from the safety of The Avengers and the shluck that has become the MCU norm, whilst I love Guardian, I think shit needs to get more real.
Affleck as Batman was an incredible breath of fresh air strike since the days of Bale but in a gory, bloodlust way. They need a solo movie of bone-breaking, teeth-crunching action.
The aforementioned Deadpool flick had to be one of the best films of its kind to ever see the light of day, and long may it reign.
I may not have seen the new Wolverine movie yet but I already know I am going to love it. Apart from the Avengers, we need to keep this mature streak of comic films alive.
What I would love to see is a very bitter, angry and violent Batman or Wolverine reboot trilogy made up of classic bad guys facing off against the bloody extremo of the main character. Who wouldn’t love to see Jared Leto’s Joker get his silver teeth as a result of Batfleck’s Batman beating the living shit out of him? Arkham anyone?!
