Remember a little while ago when District 9 director Neill Blomkamp teased us with all those amazing Alien concept art images on his Instagram account? And we all started gnashing our teeth because, according to Blomkamp himself, there was little to zero chance of us ever actually seeing this movie get made?
Well, Blomkamp took to Instagram again yesterday to tantalise us with this:
There had been rumours floating around in the past few days that 20th Century Fox were talking to Blomkamp, and that Blomkamp had been discussing the project with Alien star Sigourney Weaver, who worked with him on his latest film Chappie.
Fox have now closed the deal with the director, and Blomkamp’s Alien sequel is officially happening *runs around screaming*.
However, literally nothing else has been confirmed about the movie, including whether or not Weaver will be involved. Rumour has it that Blomkamp’s Alien sequel will be set years after Ridley Scott’s Prometheus (the sequel to which, Prometheus 2, is also still in the works under Fox), but will be a completely separate film from the Prometheus strand.
The images Blomkamp posted to Instagram a while ago seemed to suggest a re-imagined third Alien film, what with the apparent presence of Hicks, who died off-screen between films 2 and 3. Of course, this new untitled film is still in the very early stages of development, so who knows which way the story is going to go.
Still, we’re pretty pumped to see what Blomkamp and co. are going to hit us with in a couple of years time, and that’s somewhat of an understatement.
