It has been announced that after eight years in the making, Universal Pictures International and HBO are set to premiere filmmaker Brett Morgen‘s documentary about Kurt Cobain‘s fame and involvement with Nirvana, as well as his troubling personal life, entitled Montage of Heck. According to reports, the late Nirvana frontman’s daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, will be involved in the project as executive producer.
Named after one of Cobain’s mix tapes from the 80s, Montage of Heck is to feature ‘dozens of Nirvana songs and performances as well as previously unheard Cobain originals,’ as stated in a press release regarding the documentary. Cobain fans will also be excited to know that it will offer ‘no-holds-barred access to Kurt Cobain’s archives’, including never-before-seen home movies, recordings, artwork, photography, journals, demos, personal archives, family archives and songbooks. Having been a fan of Kurt and Nirvana for a while now, I for one am looking forward to getting a deeper insight into this mysterious grunge icon’s life.
Being called the first ‘fully authorised’ Kurt Cobain documentary, Frances Bean recently tweeted: ‘I’m really excited for you guys to see Montage of Heck.
@brettmorgen created an intense yet wonderful examination of Kurt’s life and art.’ Involving Kurt’s family members will definitely add a broader insight into Kurt’s life to the film, as I feel previous documentaries I’ve seen on Cobain are more word of mouth than factual and relevant.
So sit tight, Nirvana fans, for this intriguing depiction of the man who brought us dark, haunting, poetic grunge is set to hit your screens in spring 2015.
