Dark Souls II has been crowned Game of the Year at the 2014 Golden Joysticks Awards
The 32nd annual ceremony was held on Friday and featured more than 9 million votes from the public and saw From Software’s action-fantasy title was awarded the coveted GOTY award.
Dark Souls II was critically acclaimed worldwide upon its release back March and has gone on to ship over 1.2 million copies.
Elsewhere, Naughty Dog scooped up another two awards for its acclaimed The Last of Us title – this time winning Best Storytelling for their ‘Left Behind’ story DLC pack and also Best Gaming Moment for ‘the kiss’.
Hit PC indie title DayZ also scooped up two awards itself for Best Original Game and Best Indie Game, whilst Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag took home two awards also, for Best Visual Design and Best Audio.
Also, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft won two awards for Best Online Game and Best Mobile Game
Rust picked up Playfire Most Played Game of the Year, Battlefield 4 scooped up Best Multiplayer, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt won for Most Wanted, Pokemon X & Y won Best Handheld Game, and the Oculus Rift DK2 won for Innovation of the Year.
In other awards, PewDiePie won the Gaming Personality of the Year, Ubisoft Montreal won for Studio of the Year, and Steam won Gaming Platform of the Year.
Hideo Kojima was also awarded the Lifetime Achievement award.
“The Joysticks are the people’s awards and 2014 winners entirely reflect the creativity and diversity of modern gaming,” wrote CVG and Golden Joysticks editor Andy Robinson.
“I’d like to thank everyone who voted for again joining us in celebration of a passionate and innovative medium that we all love.”
