The latest viral marketing push for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is pretty ingenious, we have to admit. The franchise already has its own government website (thecapitol.pn) where you can find all manner of convincing ephemera relating to the films. Now Capitol Couture, the fashion and beauty based subsection of said site, is home to the ‘District Heroes’ collection, showcasing ‘everyday’ heroes from various Districts of Panem.
A quote from the website:
The Hunger Games films are known for their unique style; the outlandish Capitol fashions are a marker of status and power, and make a stark contrast with the aesthetics of the poorer Districts. The blending of the two makes for some very meaningful propaganda (even if the guy from District 6 is reminding us of the Derelicte Collection from Zoolander with his tyre trousers).
