Naughty Dog has confirmed that The Last of Us is coming to PlayStation 4.
Earlier today it was reported that a banner appeared on the Sony Entertainment Network online shop advertising The Last of Us: Remastered edition for PlayStation 4 but no further details were given nor a release date.
Now, Arne Meyer, Community Strategist for Naughty Dog, confirmed via the PlayStation Blog that the company’s critically acclaimed survival-thriller is indeed coming to the PS4 with an expected release this summer.
“Moving our efforts to the PS4 has allowed us to remaster an already phenomenal looking The Last of Us in 1080p with a list of upgrades including higher resolution character models, improved shadows and lighting, upgraded textures, along with even more improvements,” said Meyer
“We love setting challenging technical hurdles for us when working on each game – and this is no different. We’ve been working hard on The Last of Us: Remastered to release a next-gen evolution worthy of the 200+ Game of the Year awards, not to mention the acclaim and expectations of our fans.”
Included in the game will be the Abandoned Territories multiplayer map pack, the Reclaimed Territories pack and the first and only story based DLC, Left Behind.
Also an exclusive director’s commentary for all the in-game cinematics will be available with the Naughty Dog’s creative director and The Last of Us writer, Neil Druckmann, game director, Bruce Straley, Troy Baker, who portrays Joel, and Ashley Johnson, who portrays 14-year-old Ellie.
For those who pre-order the game, you’ll receive 100 supply points for use in factions mode, two special bonus skins for Joel and Ellie once you’ve completed the story, increased crafting speed, increased healing speed, 9mm reload speed increase and rifle clip capacity increase.
The Last of Us launched in May 2013 to worldwide critical acclaim for its emotional story and immersive environments. Recently selling over 6 million copies, it has gone on to win over 200 Game of the Year awards.
Talk of a sequel have been surfacing over the last few months with Neil Druckmann revealing talks about a sequel have already begun and would have a 50/50 chance of happening.
A film adaptation is currently in development.
